Happy Market Day

Maybe it’s that I was born and raised on the Prairies. I’ve always loved farmers markets. There’s something about the general hubbub, the bright colours, the smells, the happy people. It’s hard not to enjoy them.

Come to think of it, I don’t meet a lot of grumpy people at farmers markets. Maybe it’s because you have to make an effort to go, so people who don’t want to be there, aren’t. I mean, the regular grocery store is a duty, a must, a requirement if you’re going to eat. But if you’re going to go to the farmers market, you’ll need to anticipate when and where it will be held. After all, it comes only once a week.

Maybe it’s partly that sense of anticipation that makes people so happy at the market.
